“‘You may be a mother, but you’re also a child.’– the importance of unintended pregnancy of underaged women in Germany for sexual and reproductive health: a biographical narrative analysis”
(Winter, 2026)
ARTICLE SUMMARY: This study explores the experiences of young women in Germany who had unintended teenage pregnancies. Through in-depth interviews, researchers found that many faced serious challenges, including difficult childhood experiences and unhealthy dating relationships. For some, pregnancy felt overwhelming and limiting, while others were able to reflect, advocate for themselves, and build resilience despite hardship. The findings highlight how unintended teen pregnancy is often shaped by broader life circumstances, including family instability and social stigma—especially for young women from minority backgrounds. The study calls for stronger, more empowering support services and more equitable sexual education to better meet the needs of young pregnant teens.
